What population does York Place Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility serve?

York Place PRTF provides intensive intermediate and long-term care to children and adolescents who have psychiatric and behavioral health disorders with a significant impairment of social, interpersonal, or educational functioning that requires the provision of inter-disciplinary treatment interventions; and for who appropriate community or family resources do not exist.  We serve children ages six through fourteen.

Will my insurance company pay for services at York Place Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility?

Most insurance companies do not cover long-term residential treatment for children and adolescents, so most of the children and adolescents served receive Medicaid benefits.  However, we will be happy to assist you in order to determine financial payment.

What is the length of stay?

The length of stay varies and is dependent upon the residents’ investment into the treatment program.  Most residents are in care a minimum of 90-days, with many staying longer.  Every effort is made to move the resident toward a return to a less restrictive environment as quickly as possible.

How do clients maintain their schoolwork while in treatment?

The Education program of York Place PRTF is part of the York School District #1.  The residing students attend school Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

All residents are encouraged to participate in extra-curricular school activities (e.g., outings, leisure activities, unit-based groups, etc.) when appropriate. Media resources are made available to all residents for research, enrichment, and enhancement activities.

Do the residents participate in any off campus activities?

Residents are provided with community activities commensurate with their ability to handle such experiences. Aside from recreational activities, the Education Department schedules educational outings, which foster an appreciation of historic, cultural, and scientific resources in the region. Outings include opportunities for residents to further their social skills and obtain age appropriate socialization experiences.

Are Worship services provided?

York Place PRTF provides opportunities for residents to voluntarily participate in weekly Chapel services offered on campus.  Outside religious organizations may provide one to one visits and group visits for residents.  Residents are given the opportunity to voluntarily participate in off campus local church or religious experiences appropriate to their religious orientation.

How often do residents receive therapy?

Individual therapy is provided 90 minutes a week. The session is usually divided into two forty-five-minute sessions (or shorter sessions more frequently if and when appropriate). Group therapy, facilitated by a clinician, is offered three times a week.  Family therapy is offered weekly, but the frequency can be adjusted to meet the needs of the family.  Every effort will be made to have at least one session face-to-face with the parent and/or guardian and resident monthly.  Therapy may exceed these standards as deemed appropriate.

Can I visit or call my child at any time while at York Place Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility?

Our residents have a very structured day which consists of individual, group, family therapy, and education, along with activity therapy.  Telephone calls, incoming and outgoing, are usually made after 6 p.m. Residents are assigned call nights where in which they may make outgoing phone calls. Residents also have an approved contact list from which their calls are made. This is signed by their legal guardian. Those who are making incoming calls to the facility must have a Resident ID # in order to speak with the resident.

Family contact and visits are encouraged.   In reference to visits, all visits must be arranged through the resident’s primary therapist.

How soon after admission can my child have a home visit?

While family involvement is essential to success in treatment, it is important to remember that the resident was placed in the psychiatric residential treatment facility because his or her psychiatric condition was such that they could not safely function in a less restrictive home environment.  Therefore, significant progress towards treatment goals should be demonstrated prior to over night home visits.  Generally, family visits are first on-campus, then off-campus, then finally overnight visits at home.  The frequency of home visits increases as the resident approaches discharge.
